Who? what? why?
Spread ’Em is me – hello!
My name’s Kris, I’m a professional chef based in St Albans. Spread ’Em is built around the first love of my life: bread.
Growing up as a northern lad, I was raised on the idea that no meal is so good that a slice of bread won’t make it better. Sunday roast? Bread and butter for that last bit of gravy. Breakfast? Toast, obviously. And fish and chips on a Friday night? Always with a slice of bread for a proper chip butty.
Spread ’Em was born from obsession. When I wasn’t working in a restaurant kitchen cheffing it up, I’d spend my days off baking ciabatta for anchovies on toast, brioche rolls for next-level burgers, and even experimenting with fermenting loaves into my own Marmite. (Which didn’t go well.)
Eventually, all that love for bread and flavour found its home in the humble sandwich – simple, comforting, at home in all walks of life. Everyone from my 94-year-old Nan, to my girlfriend, and even our cat Hank appreciates a good sandwich. A true boundary-crossing classic.
At Spread ’Em, nothing is bought in. I make everything from scratch – the bread, the sauces, the mayonnaises, all of it. (Well, I don’t farm my own pigs – but you get the idea…)
This is about giving sandwiches the glow-up they deserve, and spreading that love around the UK to festivals, markets, pub beer gardens, anywhere, and everywhere.
You can catch me every Wednesday at St Albans Market, plus festivals and events throughout the year. Check our socials for the latest locations and updates, and below for a current events schedule.
Bread, we salute you.
